Introduction

Kallindex is a platform that specializes in compiling price indices for commodity markets using a rigorous, data-driven methodology.

It works closely with market participants to compile the price indices and other essential industry data they need for business success.

Kallindex is the platform for Kallanish Index Services (KIS), which is a subsidiary of Kallanish.

The client was looking for a software development partner, to lead the process of building the new platform, by taking care of everything - from product discussions, through software development, to infrastructure & support.

Having prior experience in building & maintaining the Kallanish platform, HackSoft was a natural fit for that, so we jumped right into it.

The Challenge

When building a new platform, you have to take into account the balance between time-to-market and maintaining engineering quality.

We needed to experiment with various features, while also providing a stable platform that’s going to be used in day-to-day business operations.

On top of that, we also had to think about the upcoming scale of everything.

We leaned on the experience we had from building the Kallanish platform and started moving in the right direction.

A big part of the software development process involved a lot of product discussions, which HackSoft happily led.

The Solution

Leveraging the power & maturity of Django, combined with the agility of React and Next.js, HackSoft managed to harness its end-to-end software development expertise, by shipping a brand new platform that's still under active development.

Since there are a lot of background integrations and cross-system communications, HackSoft leveraged the power of Celery, to build a horizontally-scalable system for handling background tasks of all sizes - big, small, fast & slow.

Alongside the technical expertise, HackSoft also brought much-needed product development skills, working closely with Kallindex, to figure out features & improvements for all existing systems.

The platform is still under active development & HackSoft is there, to make it happen.
